OROSEI
In the heart of Baronia
Orosei, once the most important city of Baronia, rises at the foot of a tuff hill in the valley where the river Cedrino flows. The sea and the idyllic beaches, that can be easily reached, are the hallmark of the surrounding landscape and the reason why Orosei became one of the most renowned destinations in Sardinia.
The town has a peculiar and well-preserved historic center with building and streets covered with basalt slabs that evoke the typical Sardinian charm. While strolling around it is possible to admire important marks of the rich history of the town, among all the old jail and the several consecrated churches that were built to honor numerous Saints and the Holy Virgin.
Orosei, like many other towns in Sardinia, organizes during the year different events related to the tradition. Among the most important and popular ones, we cannot forget the feast of Saint John, celebrated on 25th July, the Holy Week, during which many ceremonies and processions with folk chores took place, and the feast called festa di Santa Maria ‘e Mare in honor of the Patron of sailors, whose statue is carried on a boat along the river and decorated with floral arrangements.
